Homemade Pop Tarts

Before we start the tutorial, let's take a look at the ingredients in a store bought pop tart:
Filling made with 10% fruit? What is the other 90%?! The rest of the small print consists mainly of mysterious words that I would have to look up in a dictionary and then have a scientist explain to me.
Ingredients:
  • Pie crust (store bought or homemade)
  • Powdered sugar
  • Sprinkles
  • Jam that you'd like your poptarts to be flavoured with (I used strawberry)
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°
Step 2: Lay out your pie crust and cut it into the shape of your poptart; make sure you have a top and bottom for each poptart (ex. if you make it a square, have 2 squares to close the poptart).  You may have to re-roll some of the crust to get use out of all of it.
*Fun Hint: cookie cutters make more fun shapes and to ensure equal sized top/bottom pieces
Step 3: Put some jam in the middle of the bottom piece (estimate the amount by the size of your pop tart).  Put a little more than you'd like because it may seep out while baking.

Ideas for alternative fillings:
  • Chocolate
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutella
  • Grape Jam
  • Peach Jam
  • Apple Jam
  • Peanut Butter

Step 4: Place the matching piece or crust on top and squeeze the edges together to close it.  Place your pop tarts on parchment paper (keeps the jam from getting on the pan) and then on a cookie sheet.  Now pop these babies into the oven.

Step 5: Bake for ~15 minutes or until golden brown
**Don't be alarmed if you look in your oven and see your jam dripping out**
Step 6: Mix some powdered sugar with milk to create an icing.  You need a VERY small amount of milk so add it slowly and stir until you have a good consistency.
Step 7: Once your pop tarts come out of the oven, pour some icing on and immediately sprinkle the sprinkles on.  If you wait, the sprinkles won't stick to the icing.
Step 8: Once they have cooled, place them on a plate and serve with a large glass of cold milk :)

Chocolate Chip Oreo Brownies

THREESOMES: FANTASY BECOMES REALITY

Before any of you think this post will be similar to an excerpt from the recent book phenomenon, 50 Shadesof Grey, let me assure you it’s of a completely different nature, just read on. As I’m sure we’ve all experienced, while on a diet the only thingthat can satisfy a craving is chocolates or cookies or chips… or anything thatis relatively unhealthy and fattening for that matter.  So tonight I drove out to the store andpicked up ingredients to make slutty brownies.  If you haven’t heard of this gem before it is the slut ofthe dessert world.  It makes threesomessound very appealing and quite delicious.
Chocolate chip cookies + Oreos + brownies = heaven.
It really is the slut of the dessert world because it is so delectable thateveryone wants them but very deceitful in that it will make you fat before youknow it.  Slutty Brownies can onlybe eaten in small quantities or else they will take over your body.

**Warning: Slutty Brownies have been known to put some people in a very orgasmic food coma**
However, if I have peaked your interest at all and would like to know how to bring Slutty Brownies to life, I willshow you how to make them.
Here are my ingredients.

You can choose any kind of Oreo your heart desires.  I picked these lovely summer themedones with blue crème and summer designs on the cookie.  If you are a Betty Crocker protégée youmay want to make your cookie dough and brownies from scratch; but I just boughtboxed brownie mix and premade cookie dough.

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°

Step 2: I used an 8x8 ungreased Pyrex dish which is theperfect size for the “snack size” box of brownies I had, and it doesn’t overwhelmyou since you eat it in such small quantities.
I can’t think of a more elegant way to put this, but you smush down the cookiedough to cover the bottom of the dish.

Step 3: Make rows of Oreos until the cookie dough is covered

Step 4: Pour your brownie mix over the top, and then smooth over to fill in all the crevasses between the Oreos.

Step 5: Putyour slutty creation in the oven and bake for ~40-45 minutes depending on youroven; keep checking the middle of the brownies with a toothpick to gage when itis ready to come out.

Step 6:Put on a cooling rack, pour yourself a big glass of cold milk, and make thefantasy of a threesome become reality in your mouth. Yummm

Why Start a Blog?

So it’s officially summertime! That means I have a little… a lot, more time on my hands to do what I love: craft.  I joined a sorority this year and I think that's what brought back out my creative side and I couldn’t be happier about it.  I have a bucket list of crafts I’d like to accomplish and I think it’d be cool to share my ideas with the world few people who discover my blog and take the time to read it.
